What is ping.sg?

ping.sg is a meta blog for Singapore bloggers. It aims to create a comprehensive and thorough database for blog entries written by local bloggers and/or with local interest. ping.sg also aims to create online community for Singapore bloggers to interact and gives every single blogger the same chance to stand out above the rest.

This episode set me thinking. It's being searched by many, make it to the top of search engines, but it didn't make it to the top 10 of ping.sg

As you've read at the top, ping.sg is a meta blog for Singapore bloggers. So it makes me wonder what kind of posts are in the Top 10 of ping.sg

If you scroll to 24hours, This week, This month and This year. There is a similarity in the kind of posts that are in the Top 10. Singaporeans love to read posts that have articles that show some skin.

This kind of articles make it to the Top 10.

The thing is, Abang Long won't be going that direction and I'll find ways how to make it to the top.

12 Main Categories in A.B.S Blog

Anak Boyan Singapura blog is no longer a personal blog that it was once used to be. Those personal posts have long been removed from this blog and transfered else where. So now Abang Long is creating a new different type of blog.

Basically, Anak Boyan Singapura (A.B.S for short) blog is a blog that revolves around Abang Long's life. It will be about matters that matter to me in our everyday life. Let me explain to you as we go along. Although I've said that the past personal posts have been transfered, there will be some personal posts in this blog. But the difference is, it won't take the majority part of this blog.

Since Abang Long have said that this blog will revolves around my life. It means every single day, I've something to talk and share with the readers.

I've been thinking about this since a long time ago and it was interesting to think about new ideas on how to make this blog interesting.

I've had past visitors that came to Abang Long's blog that search for Fauzie Laily, Abbas Saad, Singapore Soccer and some others. Infact, there's nothing about Fauzie that I've blog here apart from the post that I've blog years ago when I happened to came across him. Other than that, I did not post anything about him.

So I thought about something that is really part of the blog. Here, let me share with you what are the categories.

Since we talk about everyday life, I've put 7 categories for this for every single day. There are:

1) Monday Motivation
Most people dread Mondays. Why? I've posted about this before. So I want to change that mindset by posting something meaningful to start the week. Monday is the start of the week and if you start it badly, or with little energy, can you imagine how your week is going to be?

What can the readers expect from 'Monday Motivation' posts? Well, it's going to be full of energy! Lot's of motivating speech. Motivating songs that Abang Long hear to start the day. Motivating photos that tell a thousand words. Motivating books that Abang Long is going to review and share to the readers. It's all about energy for Mondays.

Readers can share with Abang Long too about their experience, tips and stories so that Abang Long can share with the rest of the readers. Good things must share with everyone. So that we'll learn to be a better person.

2) Temptation Tuesday
Temptation Tuesday is all about food, food and more food! Here is something to ponder about. Do you know that the number one job that is most suitable to Abang Long according to a work analysis is a Chef? Yes, a Chef? I don't know why but I think it has got to do with details. Abang Long is a Virgo and Virgos are perfectionist. They go through every single detail and Chef must oversee every single detail in the dish that they cook. Interesting huh?

Anyway, Temptation Tuesday will bring to you all the makan places that Abang Long have visited, be it alone or with his Marffin.

I'll provide as much detail as possible, an honest review of the food, location and services. If you have any ideas or feedback about what you like to see in my review, feel free to message me. I'm open to suggestion, feedback or critic. We are human afterall.

3) Wealth-nesday
Wealth-nesday is the day about personal finance, money, savings, investment, insurance, make money online. I'll share with you my experience and informations that I know myself or I learn through the world wide web.

Wealth is a big category on its own. I can even set-up another blog to sub-categorize this but I'm making it easier for you to receive all the informations here.

4) Thursday have two sub-category. There are Tech-Thurs & Talented Thursday
The reason I put two categories here is because there are no other "T" days in the week. Meaning to say that apart from Thursday that starts with the letter "T", Tuesday is the other day. There are no other "T" days left. I can't put any of the sub-category into Tuesday because I want to dedicate that day just for food. So I'm afraid I have to pair them up together. Well, Thursday will be shared by Abang Long about latest technology gadgets like the recent Ipad news. I'll scout the net for useful informations. I'll learn in that way, my readers will learn something too. Learning is so fun! Hehe.

Talented Thursday will be about stories or videos about individual or group of people that attract my attention. It's good to share with my readers too what Abang Long like.

5) Fighting Fit Friday
I love this category too. Infact, I'm blogging about categories that interest Abang Long. In that way, the articles that Abang Long have posted will really be interesting! Good right? Hehe.

Anybody want to join Abang Long in getting the body shape that you want? Join Abang Long in his journey to get back in shape. Yes, you've seen it right. 'Get back' in shape. Abang Long was in a good shape during my National Service days but slowly decrease when out of it. I think I've to put it to stop and get back to shape for good. There are many positives to think of when getting back in shape. Not when you have a good figure but the process to reach that target.

6) Sexy Saturday
Sexy Saturday is about relationship. Readers can expect lots of informations that Abang Long learn throughout his life from friends, own experiences and the net.

Gifts that you can make for your love ones? Surprises that you can do to him/her. Interesting ways to show your love towards your love ones. Many other topics that we can talk about!

7) Sunny Side Up Sunday
Sunny Side Up Sunday is about anything under the sun. There is no particular topic that Abang Long want to talk about on this day. Since Sunday happens to be Abang Long's family day, Abang Long also want to rest.

Something light, something that don't require Abang Long to post a long entry. Need to rest this fingers too. Hehe. Or maybe you can tell Abang Long what will you like to know. How's that?



So that's it. 8 different categories for 7 days of the week. I told ya that it won't be personal anymore. It's all about what matters in our everyday life. Looking forward to it? I'm doubly triply(is there such word?) looking forward to share with you.

It's going to be interesting, much more interesting than the previous version of Abang Long's blog.

As much as how I love my England club, Liverpool, I also love my country soccer team. Although it does not bring back the old Kallang roar to the famous Kallang Stadium, this is still our country's national team. If we Singaporeans don't support them, then who will?

11) Movie Review
Marffin and I love to watch movies and I've a habit of asking her what is your view about the Movie and what's your rating out of 5. That made me think. Why not I do Abang Long's version instead, all in Anak Boyan Singapura blog.

Not only will Abang Long review about the movie, stuffs like the cinema too will be reviewed by me. If movie nice, cinema sitting not nice, will it make a good movie experience? No!

Must enjoy your movie mah. Ticket nowadays so expensive.

12) Blog News
Last but not least, the smallest category of all if possible. This will be news about Anak Boyan Singapura blog. The purpose is to make a note for Abang Long regarding this blog. Like how somebody from Saudi Arabia searched for porn and sex in Abang Long's search box. Like WTH!!

Who is Abang Long?
My name is Muhamad Zulhairy and you can call me Abang Long. Basically, 'Abang Long' means Eldest Brother in direct Malay translation. I'm the eldest brother of 2 siblings, a brother and a sister. I've other nicknames but I prefer to be called 'Abang Long' or 'Along' for short.


What is Anak Boyan Singapura?
As stated above, 'Anak Boyan Singapura' means Boyanese Singaporean Child in direct translation. Those three words sums up my nationality, where I stay and my race.


Reason Why You Set-up This Blog?
The reason I set up a blog is hugely because I want to chart different phases of my life. The blog started way back in January 2004 where it was a personal blog. I want to note down the events that happen through my life. We live only once and I want to remember all these events again sometime in the future.


Hobbies?
I'm a big fan of Liverpool. I've been supporting them since I was 10 years old. I've grown up to the ups and downs of Liverpool and will always remain loyal. I'm a fan of Steven Gerrard but he's not my favourite player. I have a kick-a-bout with my friends once in a while in neighbourhood parks.

I'm also a huge fan of running. I like any sorts of running activities like jogging, sprinting or going through a maraton. Recently, I managed to go through the full marathon run in 2009 where I participated in Adidas Sundown.

I love taking photos. The hobby started way back in 2006 when I own my own digital camera but the hobby hits a new level since getting to know Marffin. We love taking photos of each other, scenery, buildings and all of sorts of things that might interest us.


You've always talk about your activities together with Marffin. But who is Marffin? Is she a real person?
Haha. Yes, she is a real person. She's my childhood sweetheart.


Is that all you can tell us?
For the time being, yes. But you'll get to know her in blogs to come.


Ohh,ok. Achievements?
I've many in my life and I have sweet memories of every single one of them. But the most memorable three will be:

1) Reaching summit of Mount Kinabalu at the age of 14. I was picked together with about 20-30 guys among a group of 60 to be chosen to go for the expedition. I have to thanked my teacher, Mr Chua for having faith in me although the other teacher didn't agree with Mr Chua's choice. I was glad to prove that teacher wrong by reaching to the summit while some of his chosen students didn't managed to hit the top. I was really proud of myself back then.

2) Performing foot drills with my Drill Squad in front of 1000+ of people. It was a memorable moment for me. I've always wanted to be a National Day Parade Sergeant Major. To be able to perform in front of the country. But winning the Drill Squad Competition and performing infront of the school is the next big thing. Competing against 9 other companies, my drill squad was the champion of that batch. Performing infront of School Commanding Officer and other big names was memorable for me. Too bad the squad didn't managed to perform during their Passing Out Parade in front of their parents.

3) Lastly, to be able to be in contact with Marffin again. Priceless!

Assalamualaikum. Hi there fellow readers. Thank you very much for dropping by. Today's date is 12 January 2009. The month of Syawal is ending soon but let me say this again. Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri!

Why is the mood still there?

Well, for many students who had just finished their PSLE, today is their day to celebrate. They will be celebrating the end of their exams and finally can celebrate Syawal after weeks of studying. To my foreign readers, PSLE is an local acronym in Singapore for 'Primary School Leaving Examinations'. Students at the age of 12 years old have to go through and pass these examinations before they can graduate from their primary schools. They will have to take examinations for English, Mathemathics, Mother Tongue, Science and for a small percentage, an additional Higher Mother Tongue.

Well, but not many people have the mood to celebrate this year's Aidilfitri. For another group of students, they will be taking another major examinations in their life. This will be the students who will be taking 'O' Levels examinations. Abang Zool will like to take this opportunity to wish all the students all the best for the incoming exams. May you guys succeed and achieve the results that you've been aiming for.

That's for my introduction, today's blog is about searching for my blog. Ever since I've created a blog of mine, I've always wanted to know who my readers, where they come from and what keywords or phrases were being searched by the readers. It is interesting to know from which part of the world have your blog landed to. I've installed a 'Live traffic feed' recently to find out these informations. To my surprise, this blog have landed as far as Jerusalem. Wow, that's interesting. Other than the usual readers, there are 3 groups of people that have caught my attention. I'll elaborate below.

1st Group of People

I was wondering to myself, how can they land on my site searching for him. So I searched that phrase myself. To my astonishment, this is what I found out.



Then I remembered I once blog about Fauzie before, it was dated January 2006 in my previous blog. So I searched for that blog entry and I saw this.

Once reached Bedok station, I saw Fauzie Laily with his girlfriend going up the escalator. This is my second time saw him without his fans. As I wasn't wearing my specs, I couldn't really see him properly but I know it's him. Now he's famous among the malay society. The other time I saw him was at IMM. It was the first day of Anugerah audition. Back then, he wasn't as famous as now. The funny part is, when I was going down the escalator. I wanted to go back up to talk to him. It is because, our dads know each other but we don't know each other. Haha. Our dads have similar back name too. I know Fauzie's dads name is not only Laily, it's something R Laily. As for me, Muhamad Zulhairy Bin Yunsinlaily can be changed to Zul Laily. Hehe. Style right? Fauzie Laily and Zul Laily. Like siblings like that. Haha. If I happened to see him again, I'll confirm talk to him and wish him all the best in his music career.

When I looked at that entry, I can still remember clearly that short unexpected 'meet'. Yes, our dads know each other but not us. The last time our dads meet was during Fauzie's sister wedding. But if you come here to find out who is Fauzie's girlfriend or whether he has a girlfriend, I have to dissapoint you but seriously, I don't know. Who know's Fauzie might bum to this blog and he may enlighted all the readers out there who is searching for this phrase 'Fauzie Laily Girlfriend'. Before I start, I'll like to wish Singapore's local football hero, Dollah Kassim a speedy recovery from his heart attack. May his family and friends be calm and strong during this period.

Now about the phrase searched. Interesting? Yes, I think so. Recently, I have blog about a Singapore match against China and it sparked interest for this 2 group of readers who are searching for Kallang roar and Abbas Saad.

Yesterday in the Sunday Times, they were talking about the team that won the Malaysia Cup in 1977 and where are the players now. I don't know most of the players because I wasn't even born then. Anyway, that gave me an idea. Since I've also blog about Singapore winning the Malaysia Cup in 1994,I might search for the players in that team and do my version of "Malaysia Cup 1994: Where are the players now?"









It's interesting to find out that a Thailand reader wanted to know what is the Kallang roar. It gave me a sense of patriotism when a foreigner wanted to know what is the famous kallang roar. Do visit this entry to find out more about the kallang roar.







Rank Number 1 for 'Is Footballer Abbas Saad Married?' Wow! That's very interesting. This is like the same for Fauzie Laily and girlfriend. I also have to dissapoint the readers who search for that phrase. I have no idea whether Abbas Saad is married or not.

Abbas Saad is the 1994 hero in the Malaysia Cup win. He scored a hat-trick on that day and beautifully assisted strike partner, Fandi Ahmad.

Born in Lebanon, Saad moved to Australia and started a professional footballing career. A midfielder with a good eye for goal, he played in the Malaysian League for Johor and Singapore in the early 1990s. 5 Facts About Anak Boyan Singapura Blog

1) This blog is created way back in 2004. To be exact, January 14th 2004 was my very first blog entry. So this blog is officially six years old now.

2) It was a personal blog of Abang Long, one where I pour out my feelings and thoughts.

3) It had many followers back then and many people get to know about blogging. How time flies.

4) I stop blogging when I entered National Service in 2006. Reason being too tired to blog and it's wrong for us Singaporeans Guys to blog about our activities in National Service.

5) So, in 2009, Abang Long decide to blog again. Transfer all my personal blog posts to a different site and now blog about everyday lifestyle that you and I go through.


Why choose the current blog name?

1) Back in 2004, I chose this blog name, Zulhairy06.blogspot.com.

2) I chose it because it's Abang Long's name, Zulhairy and I want that domain name because Abang Long don't want other Zulhairy in the world to get this domain name. Hehe.


So why 06?

1) 06 is Abang Long's favourite number. Not because this blog is created in the year 2006.

2) 6 is the jersey number of Abang Long's favourite soccer player.


Who is Abang Long's favourite player?

1) He is Roberto Carlos da Silva Rocha or simply known as Roberto Carlos. He is also known for his trademark free kicks and explosive running speed. To me he is the king of all attacking fullbacks. The pioneer batch of attacking fullbacks.

2) Since watching him play in the World Cup 1998, I love this player and mimic his style of play when playing soccer.

3) Which is to hit the ball as hard as I can from distance. You don't want to stand in the wall against his free-kick.

4) We have one similarity. We have the same height.

5) And because I love to play like him, have same jersey number as him, my thighs grow like his too. "Thunder Thighs" or "Zulberto Carlos" are what my secondary school friends call me.

In the ‘old days’ of the web to keep track of updates on a website you had to ‘bookmark’ websites in your browser and manually return to them on a regular basis to see what had been added.


The problems with bookmarking

* You as the web surfer had to do all the work
* It can get complicated when you are trying to track many websites at once
* You miss information when you forget to check your bookmarks

RSS Changes Everything

What if you could tell a website to let you know every time that they update? In a sense, this is what RSS does for you.

RSS flips things around a little and is a technology that provides you with a method of getting relevant and up to date information sent to you for you to read in your own time. It saves you time and helps you to get the information you want quickly after it was published.

RSS stands for ‘Really Simple Syndication’. Many people describe it as a ‘news feed’ that you subscribe to.

I find the ’subscription’ description helpful. It’s like subscribing to a magazine that is delivered to you periodically but instead of it coming in your physical mail box each month when the magazine is published it is delivered to your ‘RSS Reader’ every time your favorite website updates.

How RSS actually technically works is probably a lesson for another day but the key today is for you to understand why it’s good and how to use it.

Let me say right up front that I’m not the most technically savvy guy going around – but even I can use RSS. At first I found it a little strange to make the change from bookmarking to RSS but I found that when I started that I just couldn’t stop.


How to Use RSS

Subscribing is just three easy steps:

1. Sign up for a Free feed reader (I recommend Google Reader or Bloglines).

2. Come back to this page and click on this link to subscribe to this blog.

3. And you’re done! Remember to check your feed reader daily to see if new articles from Anak Boyan Singapura have been published.
